The new season has started and along with it a few improvements and venues.
The biggest change is the launch of our very own website! This will be used for all aspects of the Leagues activity from fixtures, events, photographic archives, to downloads of documents, rules of the League and those of R&A and EGA, plus of course results and league tables. First a reminder that the date for your registration of players is the 18th August and they should be on the Players Registration Sheet that can be downloaded from here.
Once completed please email to The Secretary at

The Team Sheet for the team selection, this can also be downloaded from the website, please use only this when emailing your teams.
OPERATIONAL CHANGES
Now for some of the changes to our Policies under Competition and Handicapping, which were revised in June.
Over the past few seasons there has been various comments regarding the registration of players and how throughout the season players have left and were unable to, due to the Rules, replace them.
Now in more recent times there have been financial constraints that effected players having to play fewer times a month and puts further constraints on team selection.
Other factors are seasonal holidays such as Christmas and the New Year where with growing families in the UK, has and does affect the number of players available.
So taking into consideration these and other factors we have made some changes, these are:
1. The season will have a winter break from December to the end of January.
2. During that break and only in that break, each Society will be allowed to change up to 6 registered players but without exceeding the maximum registered.
3. Any changes to the registered list will be notified to the Secretary before the last Friday in January.
4. The season will start in September and end in May to accommodate these changes.
5. New software is being developed to ensure that a double check is made on players to eliminate the possibilities of non registered players being selected.
6. The selection of the 8 players for the matches will be supplied to The League Secretary by 19.00 hours on the Tuesday evening prior to the game. The playing order and buggy requirements has to be with the Caddy Master on the Wednesday morning, using the Team Sheet provided. Failure to do this could mean that the Team will be not be on the Start Sheet and unable to participate
OTHER CHANGES
HANDICAPS
As we all know handicapping is a very contentious subject and every effort is being made to reduce and eliminate those handicaps that do not seem to change or scores that are not being administered for handicap reductions.
It is the players responsibility to ensure he is playing from the correct and lowest handicap, there are instances that society qualifying competitions are being played without applying the Slope of the course, this in itself is not in the spirit of the game and can mean a player scoring 36 points without the Slope could mean a saving of 3 points and a Category 3 player, a possible reduction of 0.9 not being administered.
So we are adding to our Policies that this method of protecting of handicapping ceases and that each Society submits a minimum of two cards a month, for each registered player on the match day , to The Treasurer.
VENUES
The global economic crisis has placed us in a situation that means that we have to look at all aspects of our expenditure.
We have been committed and worked tirelessly in reviewing all aspects of the VBPGL activity and its member Societies locality, to reduce some travelling and its inherent costs, at the same time talk with the Golf Courses to arrive at more economic green fees and related costs for the teams and still maintaining the Leagues competitiveness and the quality of its venues.
There are new additions’ to our list for next season the match venues are,
September ’09 - La Serena Golf,
October ’09 - La Manga Golf (North Course),
November ’09 – La Peraleja Golf
February ‘10 - La Finca Golf
March ‘10 - El Valle (Polaris Golf)
April ’10 – El Plantio Golf
May ’10, - Roda Golf,.
The green fees are being negotiated to an economic low level along with beneficial golf transport hire fees.
CONVENIENCE
We have to consider where and what time players are playing, so wherever possible the fixtures will reflect that, in other words the Societies that have to travel furthest will have later Tee time.
SUMMARY
I sincerely trust that the changes we have made will benefit the Societies, the Individual player and the smooth running of the VBPGL and that you will welcome and embrace them.
